Swordfish fishing is actually a sport itself. Since swordfish can slash their way out of nets and sometimes off fishing lines, they must be harpooned when they are caught. Swordfish (as said before) can swim so fast they have been known to stick their swords into the sandy bottom of the sea. They have also punched a hole into the hull of small boats. Swordfish are not listed as endangered or threatened, but in areas outside of the North Atlantic the swordfish population levels are becoming a concern.
